Ministry of Transportation, November 6, 2013 – Ontario has opened two new roundabouts on Highway 7 in the Township of Perth South to improve traffic and safety conditions for local families, businesses and visitors.
The roundabouts are located at the intersections of Highway 7 and Perth Line 9 and Highway 7 and Perth Road 118/Oxford Road 119. Other ongoing improvements to Highway 7 are targeted for completion in November, including repaving and bridge and culvert improvements between Middlesex Road 50 and Perth Line 9. Once completed, the project will have created and sustained more than 200 jobs.
Improving highways, roads and bridges is part of the Ontario government’s economic plan to invest in people, invest in infrastructure and support a dynamic and innovative business climate.
- Roundabouts are a type of intersection where traffic circulates in a counter-clockwise direction, to the right of a centre island. All entering vehicles must yield to traffic already in the roundabout.
- Studies have shown that roundabouts reduce vehicle collisions by approximately 39 per cent and collisions causing injury by 76 per cent
- Ontario is investing $2.2 billion in construction this year, creating and sustaining more than 20,000 jobs.
